October 20, 2006, Newsletter Issue #25: Cerebral Palsy Caused by Medical Malpractice

Tip of the Week

Cerebral palsy is caused by damage to certain areas of the brain. This damage can happen while the brain is still developing in a fetus, or during or shortly after a baby's birth. Some types of CP are unpreventable, but other types, such as those that happen during birth, can actually be caused by medical malpractice. If a doctor takes too long to deliver a baby, it can sustain brain damage from lack of oxygen. This brain damage can manifest itself as cerebral palsy, which can cause many different degrees of physical disabilities. If you believe that your child's CP was caused by a doctor not making the correct decisions in your baby's delivery, you should see a cerebral palsy lawyer or brain injury lawyer, who will have the correct knowledge about how to proceed in launching a medical malpractice case.
