September 29, 2006, Newsletter Issue #22: What to Look for in a Nursing Home

Tip of the Week

To make sure that your elderly relative does not become a victim of nursing home neglect, check for several things in the nursing home you're planning to use. - Make sure the facility is clean and well-lit, with sufficient room for the residents. - Look at the quality of the rooms that residents stay in, as well as the variety of activities that they can take part in. There should be adequate nursing staff and possibly doctors that come in regularly to check on patients. - The food served to the residents should be nutritious and taste good, and be able to be tailored to specific needs.
