September 8, 2006, Newsletter Issue #19: Auto Accidents Involving Large Trucks

Tip of the Week

A car versus truck accident almost always ends up very badly for those who were in the car. Commercial trucks (semis) are much larger than the average automobile, and they are able to withstand an impact with a car, whereas the car is not. Many times accidents that involve semi trucks end in death for someone in the other vehicle, and almost always cause severe injuries. Semi truck accidents caused 5,350 fatalities and 133,000 injuries in 2001 alone. As the commercial truck is owned by a company, there are different liabilities for the owners and driver. A personal injury attorney or a truck accident lawyer can help you to find who is at fault in your case. You may be able to sue the truck's driver for occurrences under their control, and you might also be able to have a lawsuit against the trucking company (for many reasons, including what the truck was carrying at the time).
