August 25, 2006, Newsletter Issue #17: Medical Malpractice and Surgery Mistakes

Tip of the Week

Mistakes during surgery are all too common. We frequently hear about cases in the news where an item (surgical implement) was left in a patient after surgery, and was not found until serious complications arose. Other problems that can happen from surgical mistakes are just as dangerous - the wrong surgery can be performed on the wrong patient, it can be the right surgery but performed on the wrong side, or non-sterilized instruments and environment can cause infection. If any of this has happened to you, you may have medical issues to deal with for the rest of your life. Make sure you find out what happened during your surgery, and you may want to contact a medical malpractice lawyer who can tell you about your rights in these matters.
